The best parts of James Bond movies don't include the blatant misogyny, the cheesy acting or the over-the-top phallic symbolism. In fact, there's not much point in watching the films unless you're into checking out the cars that Bond, James Bond and his various nemeses motor about in. There are a handful of American cars scattered throughout the filmssee the awesome AMC Hornet in The Man With the Golden Gunbut the real stars of the show are the sweet British roadsters such as the Bentleys and the Aston Martins. The motorcycles, such as the BSA Lightning featured in Thunderball, are also eye candy for the true Anglophile. And so for anyone else who fast-forwards through tedious dialogue to get a glimpse of a 1960s-era Jaguar Roadster, the British Car Show at the British Emporium is the place to be. This year's show features scads of vintage Rolls-Royces, Austin Healeys, MGs and much more. British motorcycles will also figure into the festivities, so expect to see more than a few Triumphs and Nortons. There will be contests and awards aplenty, and don't forget to duck into the store for a box of Jammie Dodgers or Fruit Pastels. The event is free and takes place at the British Emporium, 140 N. Main St. in Grapevine, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Call 817-421-2311 for more information.
