I've never had much use for Harry Connick Jr.'s musicin my opinion, it's about as slick as his hairbut I do have to give him props for his amazing turn as Will Smith's wingman in Independence Day. Ditto for his turn as a tail gunner in Memphis Belle. Unfortunately, his latest tour is not a one-man revival of his classic supporting roles, but rather a Connick-curated trip through the history of New Orleans music. If the cuts off his new album, Oh, My NOLA, are any indication, the tour will see Connick perform a number of standards in his patented narcoleptic crooner style, a favorite in Starbucks everywhere ("Put 'em to sleep and you'll sell more coffee," that's what Old Man Starbucks always said.) Seriously, Connick's version of "Working in the Coal Mine" makes Randy Newman's Pixar soundtrack cuts sound like something off Bone Machine. Catch some shut-eye 8 p.m. Saturday at the Nokia Theatre, 1001 Performance Place in Grand Prairie. Tickets are $44 to $74. Call 972-647-5700 or visit ticketmaster.com.
