The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas--no, this isn't a belated "Best of Dallas" recommendation--is opening this weekend for a quickie run at Casa Manana. The whorehouse, dubbed the Chicken Ranch during the Depression, when the pleasure palace's policy was "one bird, one lay," does brisk business with college boys and servicemen for decades until a nosy reporter sticks his, er, nose where it doesn't belong. Cue the singing and dancing. Despite Madame Mona's list of no-no rules (no drinkin', no cussin' and no clap), all hell breaks loose when the Bible-thumpin' politicians come sniffin' around. Miss Mona and local lawman Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd do their darnedest to keep the "little bitty pissant country place" open for business as usual. Did I mention there's lots of singing and dancing? Veteran actors Ruta Lee and Ed Dixon star as Mona and Ed Earl. Performances start Saturday and run through Halloween at Casa Manana, 3101 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth. Tickets are $40 to $65. Friday's performance is a student and faculty preview night for only $10. For tickets and showtimes, call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org.
