Dallas/Fort Worth has heralded some very interesting attractions in recent years: various UFC bouts, the NBA All-Star Game, and most recently, Super Bowl XLV. And now the metroplex will be playing proud host to the 2011 World Sport Stacking Championships. Now for those of you, much like myself, who have no idea what sport stacking is, it is the past time, or err, sport of stacking cups much like that kid does in the egg commercial. Participants compete to set world records at cup stacking and the travel from far and wide in pursuit of that dream. Much to everyone’s chagrin, this event WAS supposed to be taking place in London this year. However, with Prince William and what’s-her-name’s impending nuptials, the WSSA opted to move the competition out of Wales and into Garland, Texas. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Special Events Center in Garland, 4999 Naman Forest Blvd. It definitely looks like London’s loss is DFW’s gain. The events kicks off bright and early at 8 a.m. Saturday and stacks up to 5:30 p.m., resuming again at 8 a.m. Sunday morning with a forecasted end at 4 a.m. For tickets and more information, visit specialeventscenter.com.
Sat., April 16, 8 a.m.; Sun., April 17, 8 a.m., 2011
