If you've seen the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird then you've seen some of famed playwright Horton Foote's greatest handiwork. Texas-born, Foote is best known for the screenplay, but he was a genius in his own right, as shown in his many plays set in that specific Southern world of Texas. The Traveling Lady is the story of Georgette Thomas, who arrives in the fictional town Harrison, Texas, to set up housekeeping and wait for her husband to get out of jail. Like most of Foote's work, the play digs into the human condition, in this case the conflicting needs for solitude and the need for company. The Water Tower Theatre's production of The Traveling Lady takes the stage 7:30 Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays through May 1, at Addison Theatre Centre, 15650 Addison Road. Tickets are $22 to $40. Call 972-450-6230 or visit watertowertheatre.org.
Mondays, Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: April 4. Continues through May 1, 2011
