Unless you're literature geeks like us, you probably remember A Knight's Tale as a movie starring Heath Ledger and not the Middle English Chaucer story from The Canterbury Tales. And, in fairness, Chaucer was pre-Renaissance (see, we are geeks), but if you want to debate that, you should look no further than the hordes at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival. If you like to eat meat from a stick (we suggest the Steak on a Stake) or gulp foamy brew from frosty mugs, this famous Renaissance celebration is a must. While set in the Middle Ages, most of the shows are suitable for all ages, and you're guaranteed to see some characters -- of the on-stage and off- stage varieties. So while enjoying any of the dozens of acts throughout the day, such as Christophe the Insulter or Zilch the Tory Steller, you'll have to do a lot more than leave a piece of turkey leg in your beard to draw errant stares from onlookers at this festival. Tickets are $22 for adults and $9 for children under 12. The Scarborough Renaissance Festival, 2511 FM 66 in Waxahachie, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through May 30. Call 972-938-3247 or visit srfestival.com for more information.
Saturdays, Sundays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Mon., May 30. Starts: April 9. Continues through May 30, 2011
