Are you skeptical about the investment value of photography? If so, Afterimage Gallery has a story for you. The gallery sold an Ansel Adams print in 1973. At the time, the 16-by-20-inch print of “Moonrise” went for $250. Today, it’s worth more than $55,000. But although Afterimage has shown many heavy-hitters, including Robert Frank, Eliot Porter and Edward Weston, it’s equally passionate about local and emerging photographers. In fact, when it opened in 1971, it only showcased locals. Afterimage is one of the world’s oldest art galleries devoted exclusively to photography, so we imagine it’s hard to choose favorites, but gallery owner Ben Breard has done that, exhibiting a selection of 40 standouts, old and new. Afterimage Gallery’s 40th Anniversary Show is on view from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday through November 15 at 2800 Routh St. Admission is free.
