About once per month, the Dragon rears its lustrous head with a boundless offering of artistic glory. Saturday marks one such instance when the Design District’s most ophidian street coordinates a number of gallery openings for the art lover’s pleasure. From fabulous fulmination at Mary Tomás Studio Gallery and Circuit 12 Contemporary — which have combined for Lightning Strieks Twice, a dual exhibition curated by Dustin Orlando and featuring more than two dozen nationally and internationally recognized artists — to Cohn Drennan Contemporary, where DMA award-winning multimedia artist Rusty Ayrton Chapman presents Erecting Monuments to the Gods, a mixed-media, stop-motion video installation. In addition, Cohns Drennan’s Summer Group Exhibition offers paintings, sculpture and installation from four emerging artists. Along with group shows, Craighead Green Gallery brings you work by Jerry Cabrera, Natalia Ferber, Carolyn Brown and Marty Ray, and Conduit has Rex Ray, Gabriel Dawe and Jill Storthz to complement Holly Johnson Gallery solo exhibition Jim Martin: in.i.tial.ism. A skip over to Monitor Street brings you solo work by Misako Inaoka at Galleri Urbane, kinetic sculptures and site-specific installation, which creates “carefully contruct[ed] miniature environments that evoke wilderness, but are grounded in technology.” Neighboring Cris Worley Fine Arts presents Suddenly this Summer: Group Exhibition with Gallery Artists.
