It could be easy to assume that a film festival tied to one culture or one faith would be limited in its scope or relatability. The 16th Annual Jewish Film Festival of Dallas, presented Thursday through September 29 at Studio Movie Grill Dallas, Zale Auditorium at the J and Angelika Film Center Plano, is proof otherwise. Universal concepts like love, conflict, exploration and sacrifice season 10 dynamic films presented by Sherry and Ken Goldberg and the Dallas Jewish Community Center. Don’t miss Nicky’s Family (September 13), about a British stockbrocker-turned-rescuer in WWII whose efforts were kept secret until his wife — even his wife didn’t know — discovered his scrapbook in the attic. Torn (September 9) and A Bottle in the Gaza Sea (September 22) both deal with conflict, but in different ways, one examining an internal, spiritual struggle and the other thoughtfully examining the whys of a volatile international one. Gei Oni (Valley of Fortitude) (September 11) offers a love story like no other. Passes ($95) and tickets ($10 to $15) are available online. Tickets at the door are $2 more.
