Like all great things from your childhood, Red Dawn in being remade and sold back to you, hitting theaters later this month as a 2012 Thanksgiving blockbuster. That “new” movie will take itself far more seriously than a story about a team of Midwestern high schoolers that single-handedly topple an invading Soviet empire ever should. You’ll watch it someday, when you’re hungover and the thing is streaming on Netflix. Then, you’ll hate yourself, knowing that you’ve ruined every good memory you’ve retained from the original, ridiculous and absolutely perfect 1984 edition. Before that happens, cheer on the early Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey model of Team Wolverine, from Thursday to Sunday at Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.), where Red Dawn screens in 35mm. Tickets cost $10. Visit thetexastheatre.com.
