Maybe bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens aren’t your bag, but you totally get what that Von Trapp broad was on about: Surround yourself with little bits of beauty to ward off the big uglies in life. Enjoy moments in the sun with family and friends, immerse yourself in music, indulge in good food and learn to look to nature for big-picture moments that impart tranquility and connect you with what really matters in life. Peace, Hope and Butterflies 2013 will help you do all of these during its annual fundraiser for childhood cancer research. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Flagpole Hill (Northwest Highway and Buckner Boulevard), you and your family can enjoy a little diversion featuring a petting zoo, obstacle course, giant slide and a pirate ship. There will be live music to help you dance your cares away, with sets by Five Times August, Fox and the Bird, August and J, and Dovetail. Food trucks will crank out the good stuff all afternoon, and if that isn’t enough to take you to your happy place, you’ll be floored by the culmination of the event: the release of 250 butterflies by local pediatric cancer warriors. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 13 and younger. Visit miracleplayersfoundation.org/events.
