Whether you follow football or not is pretty inconsequential when the Big Game rolls around. It’s as much an excuse to drink beer and eat party subs (is that still a thing?) as predicting the outcome in New Jersey. Some of you will use it to show off your heirloom Velveeta/Ro-Tel recipe to a select group of house guests. Everyone else will pile into bars and theaters to watch the action play out with the masses. Here are a few places hosting big ol’ football parties that rise above the dogpile. The Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.) gets less nerdy for a day, opening its arthouse doors for football fans. There’s complimentary admission, drink specials, a big-screen viewing bash and a chillax vibe that’s 100 percent free of Axe Body Spray. (For the ladies: Go here to meet guys who’d rather be watching a documentary.) It starts at 5 p.m. Visit thetexastheatre.com. Gas Monkey Bar ’n’ Grill (10261 Technology Blvd. E.) is a natural fit for collective boozin’, and 25 bucks gets you buffet grazing rights and raffle tickets. I don’t know what the prizes are, but let’s assume they’re fantastic. Added bonus: They’ve got a great beer selection and a portion of ticket sales go to the kids of Dallas and Fort Worth Can. (For the ladies: Go here to meet guys who can fix your Hyundai.) Visit gasmonkeybarngrill.com for tickets. It has a 3 p.m. start time and is hosted by Ben and Skin from KRLD-FM 105.3 The Fan. The Granada Theater (3524 Greenville Ave.) always brings folks together for The Giant Football Game Whose Name We Legally Cannot Mention, and it’s doing it again this year. Repping a no-cover and RSVP-free policy, the East Dallas concert venue strips away the pretenses. Balance out your beer intake with $1 pizza and $1 brisket sliders all night, and send a friend in early to hold your seats. (It’s first-come, first-sit.) Doors open two hours before kickoff. (For the ladies: Go here to meet men whose tattoos complement your own.) Visit granadatheater.com.
