Some Broadway hits just don’t deliver, or they become musty claptraps over time. (I’m looking at you, Kiss of the Spider Woman.) Then there are those culty works, those weirdly masterful creations that keep us returning for more, like Avenue Q. You can try to go against the grain on this one, but the cast of Q has kept Theatre Too’s house full for the last year and a half. It seems Dallas just can’t get enough of those slutty, hypersexualized, drug-addict puppets — and I think we’re all better because of that. Beginning this weekend, Avenue Q packs up and takes a field trip to Fort Worth’s Stage West Theater (821 W. Vickery Blvd.), where the felt-finished cast will charm the pants off audiences through February 15. So get in the pre-Valentine’s spirit and take a potential special someone to hear Q’s hit jams, “If You Were Gay” and “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist.” Then, take your date home and close that deal: It’s what the puppets would want. Tickets cost $25, and the show runs most Thursdays through Sundays. Visit stagewest.org.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 9. Continues through Feb. 23, 2014
