Sunday, September 1, is Deep Ellum Brewing Company's second annual Labor of Love, which is a homebrew competition. This year there are around 50 entrants. Judges have already begun tasting the samples, but there is also a People's Choice award on-site day of.
Recently, the best little brewery in Deep Ellum has doubled in size, which will allow for more swilling room. To thicken the plot this year, all of the homebrewers were required to use all-grain recipes (DEBC even offered hops and grains for free to entrants), which means no extract brews.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, which includes a Labor of Love glass and six samples of homebrewed beer. Additional tasting cards can be purchased "for a nominal price." There will also be DEBC cans available for purchase at $5 each.
Several local bands will be playing including Grant Jones and the Pistol Grip Lassos, The O's and Shane Smith and the Saints.
Even better, Easy Slider, Pompeii, Dough Boys and Cajun Tailgators food trucks will be parked outside.
The festivities start as the sun starts to sink towards the downtown skyline at 5 p.m. and they'll shut'er down at 10. Get tickets here.
