The White Rock Local Market springs back to life this weekend after hibernating for our quasi-winter. If you're looking for fresh, local produce and culinary goods of all kinds, where you can literally put names to faces, this is possibly the best place in the city to do so.
"White Rock Local Market has always accepted only farmers or producers who come from within 150 miles," said Sarah Perry, director of the market. "We have always had the goal that all farmers sell what they have grown themselves. Not only do customers want to know where their food comes from, but also our market's mission is to connect our neighbors with food producers and to strengthen the local food economy."
This year they have started a Gardeners Table. "This is where someone with just a small harvest can come sell what they've grown," said Perry. "With this we hope to encourage more area gardeners to come and be part of the food economy."
In addition to farm goods, there will be local vendors with fresh bread, pastries, cheese, wines, salsa, grass-fed beef, chicken, lamb, pickles, jams, eggs, coffee and gluten free baked goods. Check the complete lineup here.
The market is held the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the Green Spot Market and Fuels at 702 N. Buckner Blvd.. Second Saturdays are "everything" markets and some nonfood, arts and crafts type stuff is available. Fourth Saturdays (March 24) are reserved for just growers and artisan foods.
