You know what Thursday is, right? Father-In-Law Day! That's right, every July 30, sons- and daughters-in-law are obligated to celebrate that most awkward of relatives.

Other than that one embarrassing uncle.

Fortunately for those stuck on gift ideas, July 30 also happens to be National Cheesecake Day, and The Cheesecake Factory (music and yapping warning) refuses to let it go unrecognized. Not only is the restaurant chain offering "Any Slice, Half Price" for dine-in customers, but it's also introducing a new variety, winner of the "What's Your Flavor?" contest: "Stefanie's Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake."

For one year, 25 cents from each slice of Stefanie's new creation will go toward Feeding America. In other words, you can thank the guy who gave you your spouse, do it on the cheap and help hungry people in your community--all by having dessert. Maybe there's an Italian restaurant doing something similar for National Lasagna Day on Wednesday.

Other stuff going on this week...

Flying Saucer's new Lake Ray Hubbard location at 4821 Bass Pro Drive opens. The newest addition to the Fort Worth-founded chain of craft-beer bars will offer some 200 beers, 80 of which will be available on draft. Food-wise, it will be the only location to offer catfish and shrimp along with the joint's customary sandwiches, soups and cheese plates.

Sevy's July Food and Wine dinner, "Grilling On A Summer Evening," is 6:30 p.m. today. Four courses each containing a "grilled element" (we're hoping for gold in at least one of them) will be paired with Kenwood Vineyards wines. Cost is $59.95 per person. Reservations (required) are at 214-265-7389.

As if you needed another reason to go to the West Village, participating restaurants will offer food tastings right outside their doors during A Taste Of West Village 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday during the July Music Series. For $5, you can enter a drawing to win a dinner for four at a participating restaurant. Proceeds benefit the North Texas Food Bank.

Two local restaurants are offering beer dinners this week. The Libertine Bar will pair roasted pork loin, sausage-tomato-mushroom soup, salmon croquette and more with offerings from Boulevard's Smokestack series (including two Hophead favorites) 7 p.m. Wednesday. Cost is $50 a head. Then at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Pappas Bros. will feature beers from around the world paired with braised beef short ribs, beer battered sole and more. Cost is $65 per person.
