When Monica's Nueva Cocina and ME Lounge opened a few weeks ago, I was anxious to see how the longtime Deep Ellum restaurateur would interpret her new space and new menu. Fans of her old restaurant, Aca y Alla, will be happy to know her popular Mexican lasagna is still on the menu, but it's the brisket enchiladas that captured my attention when I paid the Oak Lawn restaurant a visit.
They're brisket enchiladas, and they're so much more.
Like a salad for starters. The whole plate is heaped with crunchy fresh lettuce and cotija cheese. Beneath the greens two brisket enchiladas lay under a blanket of dark, mildly spicy mole and fried potatoes, carrots and onions round out a plate that sticks to your ribs. Make sure you take it easy on the chips and salsa while you wait, or you'll never be able to finish this dish.
