On Thursday, April 21, we here at DC9 will be launching something that we're pretty darn excited about -- a new, monthly concert series with our favorite local bands, fittingly called DC9 at Night's Locals Only.

Working in tandem with the folks at the Gilley's complex (Palladium Ballroom, South Side Music Hall, The Loft), we'll be hosting the region's best performers -- of any genre ilk, really -- and in a fairly intimate environment, too: Gilley's new downstairs bar and venue, the Jack Daniel's Saloon.

Our first show, we're happy to report, will feature performances from roots-rocker Kirby Brown (with the same full band that he killed with at his CD release show at La Grange on Friday night) and still the best live band in town, the Western noir-obsessed Whiskey Folk Ramblers. As I understand it, we'll have drink specials, courtesy of Jack Daniel's, too.

Oh, and this is some fairly pertinent information: These shows are going to be completely free to attend. Always.

We've got some big ideas in the works for some coming months, too. And, here and there, we're probably going to surprise you with some things.

But, regardless of what pans out in these early stages, this much, we think, is indisputable: It's going to be a party. We mentioned the fact that there's no cover, right? And that we'll have drink specials? Awesome performers, too? OK, thought so. See you there.
