Tomorrow night brings Mates of State to town, which is fine and good and all that, sure. They've been great the last two times they've come through. But we here at DC9 are looking most forward to the opening set from Minneapolis' Free Energy, a band that, as Daniel Hopkins explains in his interview with them in this week's paper, is just a straight-up, un-ironic rock outfit--one which recalls the Thin Lizzies and Cheap Tricks of yore.
Plus, James Murphy, who we're kinda crushing on these days, produced their debut full-length, Stuck on Nothing. And we liked what we saw of them at SXSW back in March.
Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners.
