Huh? Is that Prince? Why, yes. Yes, it is.
This week's winning poster comes from graphic designer Todd Slater, in anticipation of Tuesday night's gig at the Granada Theater from of Montreal and Janelle Monae.
It's a great image, with Prince, sitting atop a massive praying mantis and riding off into the setting western sun. But it's not as random an image as you'd might think. With Monae and of Montreal sharing this bill, fans can expect a heavily funk-, soul- and R&B-inspired affair at this show. And the off juxtapositions of this poster go a long way in helping explain the odd juxtapositions of the music these acts offer.
Also: Major props to the Granada Theater, which, in recent months, has majorly stepped up its show poster game, commissioning artists to design in-house-released posters for pretty much all of its big touring shows. It's a small touch among many that the theater brings to the table, but a worthwhile one, for sure. Especially for rock poster-loving freaks like me and the regular readers of this weekly feature.
Between the Granada and Parade of Flesh, things are really strong right now in the rock art world, huh?
Think your efforts are even stronger? Want to see one of your designs get honored? Then go ahead and drop us an email
with the image right here. Oh, and be sure to do so at least a week in advance of the show. Thanks!
