Remember way back when Sufjan Stevens claimed he was going to write an album each for all 50 states in the Union? Those were the days. He was the naive, fresh-faced folkie with the completely impractical, overly ambitious dream, and people loved him for it. Then he got weird, said albums were "dead," released a 60-minute "EP" and sorta disappeared. Last Dallas saw of him was back in 2012, when he brought his outlandish Christmas sing-along revue to the Granada Theater.
Now he claims he's making a comeback, prepping his first album in four years, a supposed return to his folk roots named Carrie & Lowell after his mother and stepfather. And just this morning he announced he's going back on tour, including a stop in Dallas this spring.

Honestly, we kinda loved Stevens' turn as an anti-hero, even if it meant straying away from the accessible folk songwriting of his early days. We'll be disappointed if this "comeback" means that he's toning down any of his iconoclast tendencies, because we need some of that in our pop stars, right? But even now it should be interesting to see what can of tricks he's throws into the equation; it's hard to imagine there won't be some strange gimmick or back-up dancers or 30-piece band that comes along with his return to the stage.
When Stevens hits Dallas, it'll be for a date at the Majestic Theatre on on Sunday, May 10. Ticket prices have not yet been announced, but presale passes go on sale tomorrow, Tuesdayt, January 27 at carrieandlowell.com/tour.
