Even after nearly three decades together, The Lips continue to put on one of the most interesting, engaging shows in music.

This
marks the end of AT&T Performing Arts Center's Patio Sessions
series for now. Salim is a good choice to close out the series: His love for pop music will go over well as little kids flounder around
in that reflecting pool thingy.

Chicago
indie rock act Two Door Cinema Club has had a quick rise over the last
two years. They're headlining the House of Blues' big room, followed by an
after-party in the Foundation Room, at which they'll DJ.

As
a music critic, I'm under a sort of unwritten Hippocratic oath that
says I cannot recommend this show to you. But, I'm going against the
grain. You should go to this concert. If it makes you feel better, think
of it as some sort of social experiment or whatever.

pop cat lovers Best Coast are back again. It's only been a few
months since 35 Denton, right? Oh well, they've got a new record to
push. Get there early: Dallas duo Legsweeper is filling in for Jeff the Brotherhood. And we've already told you how much we like

Colorado's The Lumineers generally don't color outside the lines of
the folk coloring book, but it's still pretty good,
safe stuff.
Valient Thorr, Holy Grail

If you don't like the word "safe" used to describe your music tastes,
head to Double Wide tomorrow night for Valient Thorr. The punk/metal act is miraculously still on the road after
nearly a decade of not selling very many records.

Avett
Brothers are a massively popular indie folk act, just a few notches
hipper than the Jonases.
Unknown Hinson

This
should be a funny show, seeing as Unkown Hinson uses old-time country
music and all that came with it as his comedic foil. He's also the voice
of Early Cuyler on Adult Swim's Squidbillies, a show, I'm told, you have to have cable to see. I hear it's funny though.
The Cave Singers
Saturday, June 2, at The Prophet Bar
Seattle
folk act The Cave Singers are revered for both their recorded music
and their live shows. Still touring on the strength of 2011's No Witch, they'll be at the Prophet Bar with local singer-songwriter Madison King.

Emmylou Harris

Seems
fitting that country singer Emmylou Harris is headlining a horse
festival in Fort Worth. AmerEquine, the company putting on the festival,
has put together a nice little bill with opening performances from
Marty Stuart, Riders In The Sky, Jesse Winchester and more.
Meltdown Music Festival

The last time the Observer went to Grand Prairie, we got covered in paint.
This time, your clothing should be safe, as Pretty Lights and
Passion Pit headline the Meltdown Music Festival. There are lots of DJs and bands on this bill, including Shiny
Toy Guns and Adventure Club.

act Japanther comes to Fort Worth DIY venue 1919 Hemphill often, it seems. It's a good
fit, seeing as Japanther's taken a largely DIY approach to releasing
music over the years. The last decade has seen more than 20 releases from the duo, mostly 7-inches and CDRs, with a few full-lengths thrown in.
