There is a large spot in my soft heart reserved for the X-Men.
Growing up, my Saturday mornings weren't spent playing in the dirt and being a stereotypical boy, but glued to the TV watching the X-Men cartoon. I collected all the action figures and my favorite was Gambit. You can picture the kid in me when X-Men released to theaters; this film helped resurrect the quality superhero movies we once saw long ago. Now there were accessible films that non-geeks could go and enjoy.
Then, of course, Wolverine happened and almost destroyed my world.
So it goes without saying that I was dangerously skeptical about X-Men: First Class when it was announced. Things, however, have taken a major turn. Sometime last week X-Men: First Class screened early for critics on the West Coast and the buzz is almost entirely positive.
