Tyler Holder, the Saginaw teen accused of brutally raping and murdering 6-year-old Alanna Gallagher, was moved from the hospital to the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday.

That means his condition has improved significantly since he was shot in the head during his July 23 gun battle with police. (Chris Lodatto, the Arlington cop he allegedly shot, is about ready to head back to work). It also means that there's a mug shot, so we no longer have to rely on his old weed-smoking Facebook photos. His new look is, in a word, rough.

Terry Grisham, a spokesman for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, told NBC 5 that Holder will have continuing access to medical personnel but will be kept separate from the rest of the jail population.

"Anytime we have a person who is accused of the crimes that Mr. Holder is accused of -- specifically, the capital murder of a child -- those type of inmates are typically not held in high stead, even with other inmates, so it is for [the inmate's] protection that we isolate them and keep them away from anything that might injure Mr. Holder," he said.

Another detail that emerged yesterday: Holder had a small arsenal of weapons in his house when police came to arrest him. According to a search warrant obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Bill Miller, he had an AR-15 assault rifle along with two handguns, a pump-action shotgun, and three other rifles.

All of which suggests that it's lucky that police raid wasn't even bloodier.
