The Bush Institute on the SMU campus today announced its very first "human freedom" event, scheduled for April 19 at the James M. Collins Executive Education Center: The Conference on Cyber Dissidents: Global Successes and Challenges. The former president and his missus will deliver opening remarks before turning over the floor to "a number of active dissidents from China, Cuba, Iran, Russia, Syria and Venezuela, all of whom make significant use of the Internet and other digital media tools in their advocacy for greater freedom in their countries." I will either live-blog this significant event or spend the entirety of the day trolling YouTube for videos of dancing city council members ...
Speaking of, Ann Margolin has finally updated her Web site to explain some recent council votes (boring) and why you've been getting all those wrong-way-parking tickets:

This is the ordinance:And, speaking of driving, Texas Motor Speedway boss Eddie Gossage's big-money offer to KSCS jock Terry Dorsey is getting quite a bit of national attention this afternoon. Gossage offered Dorsey $100,000 this morning to change his name to TexasMotorSpeedway.com for a year, and he has till tomorrow morning to decide -- and, deal-breaker, there's a tattoo involved. Which reminds me of when Mark Cuban offered Gordon Keith $125,000 to go by "Dallas Maverick" for a year -- 10 years ago! Eddie's low-balling the jock.
A person commits an offense if he stops, stands, or parks a vehicle upon a two-way roadway: (1) on the left-hand side of the roadway; or (2) with the right-hand wheels of the vehicle more than 18 inches from the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway. (Ord. Nos. 14584; 20012; 20269)
I asked Gordon this evening why he ultimately refused Cuban's offer: "I turned it down because it felt so whorish, believe it or not -- me, who enjoys being a whore."
Update at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday: OK, so. From the looks of his Facebook page, Terry Dorsey created the thing today solely to send the message that, yes, he's accepting Eddie Gossage's big effin' check: "I had made my decision. By tomorrow, my new name will be TexasMotorSpeedway.com." Which, again, is making the national news. Except, of course, everyone keeps pointing out that Dorsey's big on April Fool's Day jokes. So there's that. Either way, though, he wins.
