Twice last summer the Dallas Police Department warned it would enforce, on a limited basis, the once-litigated and gosh-how'd-we-ever-survive-without Section 31-33 of the Dallas City Code, which spells out when the under-17's can run amok on city streets during nighttime hours. Or, more to the point, when they can't: not after 11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends.
Well, you guessed it: It's that time o' the year again, with DPD once more instituting its Nighttime Curfew Initiative beginning tonight and running through the next few days ... at least, till the next time. Let's go to the heads-up:
The Dallas Police Department will begin one of many nighttime curfew initiatives that will be conducted throughout the summer. Over 30 Dallas officers will be hitting the streets tonight aggressively looking for those teenagers who are in violation of the curfew law. The operation will be conducted Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. If anyone under the age of seventeen (17) is out between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., on Thursday and 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., on Friday and Saturday, they will be cited for the violation and brought to police headquarters to be processed and then released to their parent or guardian.Incidentally, June 12 marked the 20th anniversary of the council passing the nighttime curfew for kids. I bought it this T-shirt.
