Google "Colten Moore" and you'll find that there are two young North Texas men of that name currently making headlines.
One, 24, from Krum , just scored an inspiring snowmobiling victory at the X Games, one year after brother Caleb was killed trying to do the same.
The other, 18, from Garland, is accused of cold-bloodedly gunning down two convenience store clerks in the span of a week.
That Moore was arrested Wednesday night and charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 7-Eleven clerk Yosef Tulu.
The reason, according to court documents, was simply that he wanted to shoot someone with his dad's .22-caliber rifle. He'd been saying this for more than a year, a friend told police. Surveillance video shows Moore, wearing a mask, walking into the 7-Eleven around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
After Tulu put cash and multiple packs of cigarettes into a bag, Moore motioned for him to lay on the floor. Then, police say, Moore shot Tulu twice, execution-style.
During questioning by police, Moore admitted to the second shooting, which occurred on January 16 at Homeboys convenience on Firewheel Parkway, across the street from the 7-Eleven. The clerk in that case received two gunshot wounds while walking to his car but is expected to recover.
Last night, hundreds of mourners turned out for a candlelight vigil honoring Tulu.
The 31-year-old was studying to be a nurse and planned to return to his native Ethiopia in a few months to marry his fiancee and bring her back to the States.
