The Lufkin Daily News weighs in this morning with a piece about the Neches River in East Texas receiving most-endangered status from American Rivers. No surprise, of course: There are those fer the Fastrill Reservoir and Dallas getting its grubby mitts on the precious agua, and there are those agin' it.
Fer it's Upper Neches River Authority assistant general manager Monty Shank, who asks, "Do they want a river from its headwaters to the ocean dam-free?" And agin' it's Angelina County Judge Wes Suiter, who says, "If they don't have the ability to sustain the growth in Dallas, then, oh, well ... come to where the water is." Which, come to think of it, is a great tourism slogan. Or a Toadies song. --Robert Wilonsky
