Speaking of short films set in downtown Dallas ...
About a month ago we were treated to quite the glorious double bill: local filmmaker Jun Kang's You+Dallas dreamlike tour Uptown's Greenwood Cemetery and that languid State Fair of Texas recap. To Kang's estimable collection, made with the assistance of three other cinematographers (included), we now add this: the simply titled A Christmas Tale, about a (runaway?) boy who meets a girl dancing in the Winspear's Donor Pool and winds up losing her in the crowd at the Adolphus Children's Parade.
I think. Hard to say -- literally, as there's not a whisper of dialogue contained within. (The only voice heard is that of the late Rina Ketty, performing her standard "J'Attendrai"). Interpret as you will, but one thing's quite clear: The film was shot all over town at this most wonderful time of the year, and Dallas has never looked lovelier -- at this or any other time of the year. A Christmas miracle.
