Fun Fun Fun Fest ain't nothin' to fuck with. The Austin festival is getting ready to celebrate its 10th year in 2015, and this morning they made things all official-like by announcing this year's lineup, headlined by none other than the Wu-Tang Clan. We've been burned by these "full Wu-Tang Clan" promises before, so we're always a little skeptical of such things. (It can't ever be the real Wu-Tang without ODB, anyway.) But given all the good will Fun Fun Fun has built up over its first decade, we'll take them at their word.
Last year's festival tested that good will more than most thanks to a ticketing fiasco that plagued the first day of the three-day festival. It was, all in all, a disaster, with fans spending hours in line just to pick up will-call tickets. In the time since then, the folks behind Fun Fun Fun, Transmission Events, have been busy expanding their business, first by formally opening up an outpost here in Dallas and then by taking over the festival formerly known as Psych Fest. But there's no sign here of them straying too far from their established formula with Fun Fun Fun, which is a good thing.

Alongside Wu-Tang, the major headliners include D'Angelo (who will actually be playing at The Bomb Factory well beforehand — no big deal) and Jane's Addiction, who will be doing the full-album shtick with Ritual de lo Habitual. Grimes, NOFX, Venom, Cheap Trick, Future Islands Dag Nasty and Afrika Bambataa are all part of a typically varied lineup that bounces between modern day and legacy acts in punk, indie and hip hop.This year also features a strong contingent of North Texas artists. The Black Stage, which is heavier on, er, heavy music, includes hardcore band Power Trip and ex-Dentonites Parquet Courts. Neon Indian will be playing on the Blue Stage, which also features rising rap trio the Outfit, TX. They're following in the footsteps of fellow Dallas rapper Blue, the Misfit, who played the same stage in 2014. Mel Kyle and the crew are building up to having a pretty sweet year so far.
Of course, this isn't the entirety of the lineup for Fun Fun Fun; the comedy stage is yet to come, as is the entirety of the Fun Fun Fun Nites, which takes place in the clubs downtown, a la South By Southwest. In the meantime, three-day passes are on sale now for $199 at funfunfunfest.com, with the always-cool-sounding Ultimate Smooth Pass (essentially a fancy name for VIPs) running $450. The festival takes place November 6 to 8 at Auditorium Shores in Austin.
