Woodshed Smokehouse, chef Tim Love's rustic restaurant complete with an expansive patio, is the perfect respite for us "city folk" when we visit our friends to the west. The barbecue is on point, the cocktails follow suit and the location overlooking the Trinity River will let you hit "refresh" without having to make a weekend of it. On top of that, the dog-friendly patio even features a pup menu including a rawhide bone dipped in "pit master fat." What dog wouldn't love that?

Hit the hard refresh here with the Cowtown Cocktail, a light, whiskey-forward cocktail made with only four ingredients.  It's easy enough to make at home, but who wants to go through the trouble of puréeing things ... or finding a blood orange?

COWTOWN COCKTAIL
1 ½ oz. Texas Ranger Whiskey
Heavy splash of blood orange puree
Heavy splash of strawberry puree
Splash of lemonade

Add ingredients to rocks glass, top with lemonade and ice. Garnish with cherry and orange.
