http://www.calaiswinery.com From this shop, rustic with faded brick, a concrete floor and an earth-tone color scheme, owner Benjamin Calais has been releasing his small-batch wines since October 2008. Customers come for the wine tastings held Wednesdays through Sundays. The tastings include not only the winery's stock but also international selections, with themed tastings held every weekend. While the establishment doesn't have a kitchen, patrons are more than welcome to order from nearby restaurants or to bring their own dishes to be paired with Calais' selection. Private and corporate events are often held here, but even if the spot isn't right for your shindig, you might very well find yourself leaving this charming place with a membership to the Wine Club. For $29.95, members receive two bottles of Calais wine every two months. More >>
http://www.gordonbiersch.com/locations/dallas-tx It"s difficult to call a chain with operations as far flung as New York and Taiwan a microbrewery, but the regular and seasonal batches produced at each location are served only at that restaurant. You can"t get much more micro than that. This branch -- one of two Dallas-area Gordon Biersches - is at The Shops at Park Lane, and, like its sibling, hosts packed Brewer"s Dinners with off-the-menu meals created by the executive chef. The restaurant is such a popular hangout for beer geeks and fans of signature dishes such as American Kobe sliders and garlic fries, jumbo lump crab cake and Southwest eggroll that the wait can be long even during lunch. http://www.timestencellars.com When walking into this Lakewood winery's front doors, you're welcomed by the sweet smell of fermenting grapes. And, like the sweet smell, the décor in the winery's tasting room and lounge area is homey and inviting, with the warm hues, vaulted ceilings, lots of cushy seating and candles lit throughout. But don't be surprised to find more people outside smoking cigars and cigarettes on the spacious fenced-in back patio. Times Ten Cellars features a wide selection of wines made from grapes grown in its own vineyards, and while it doesn't have a wide food selection (the menu offers up meat and cheese platters, hummus, etc.) they have arrangements with several local eateries that deliver right to your table, couch or barstool. The tasting room is open Monday through Sunday, but check the website for hours, which vary from day to day. More >>
The folks behind the Florida Beer chain World Of Beer must have their hopes set on manifest destiny. The chain’s westward expansion bypassed Dallas altogether and set up shop in South Arlington. But as the waitress divulged on a recent visit, there are plans to open as many as eight World Of Beer locations in the DFW area soon. Despite the relatively high prices ($6 for a Shiner), they will be welcomed by beer fans drawn by the 500 varieties offered in each location. The atmosphere at the Arlington location isn’t bad, either. High ceilings and red brick walls flanked by dark wooden tables give World Of Beer a warm, relaxed feel. More >>
