The Door (Dallas)

The Door (Dallas)

The Door first opened the doors of its Deep Ellum all-ages location back in May 1998, and it's been a popular place for young music fans to get their rocks off to the popular touring and local acts of every genre.
Plush (Dallas)

Plush (Dallas)

With its upstairs VIP area, bottle service, smoking-hot dancers and bass-heavy sound system, this ultra lounge is one of the hottest in Dallas.
The Wild Turkey

The Wild Turkey

Since 1978, The Wild Turkey has been the site of much gobbling - of food, that is -- in a rustic setting, reminiscent of a honky-tonk and sports bar combo.

2548 Elm St. Dallas, TX 75226-1420
214-742-3667 The banner on owner Russell Hobbs' website for this bar and venue only hints at the rich history behind his involvement in Deep Ellum: "The Prophet Bar, Established 1985, Re-Established 2007." It's a staple venue in Deep Ellum's on-and-off again cycles for the past 25 years -- sorta like the historic Dallas entertainment district itself. Hobbs' original Prophet Bar was an instrumental catalyst in Deep Ellum's '80s heyday, when the scene spawned a burgeoning bunch of talented local artists and musicians. The stage regularly featured locals like The Reverend Horton Heat, TimBuk3 and The New Bohemians. In 2007, when this incarnation of the Prophet Bar opened in the old Gypsy Tea Room space, Hobbs kept the legacy of a fantastic venue and bar alive. Brick walls line the sides of the narrow main room, with the stage in back and the bar on the left side leaving a wide-open space for people to hang out and mingle between sets. Or you can vie for one of the few booths up front. Note that for bigger shows, the adjacent venue, The Door, becomes The Prophet Bar's "Big Room." Read more about The Prophet Bar >>

214-720-5249 The Fairmont Hotel, one of the finest places to stay in the Arts District, has a bar to match. The Pyramid Bar, located just a few steps inside the front door, is shrouded in the hotel's golden beige. The space, set apart from the hotel only by its wooden floor, features an open lounge area and long marble bartop. On a recent visit, after noticing the extensive cocktail menu, we asked the woman working the bar if she had any mezcal. “We do, but I don't know why anyone would want to drink it,” she chuckled. “Good point,” we thought, and ordered a beer. There were about six on tap, the high cost of which matches the decadence of the hotel. Read more about The Pyramid Restaurant and Bar >>
