The Horseman Club

The Horseman Club

Two-steppin' under strobe lights in a cavernous, concrete-floored interior, college kids and an older regular crowd come out for live country music on Friday nights and $2 wells and domestics until 9 p.m. every day.
Poop Deck

Poop Deck

The inside of this dive bar is like the belly of a boat, with dark wood-paneled walls and a ship's wheel behind the bar. The draws include karaoke Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and happy hour specials 4 to 8 p.m.
Poag Mahone's Irish Pub

Poag Mahone's Irish Pub

In Gaelic, Poag Mahone means "kiss my ass," though the pub is way more inviting than its name suggests. In the booming 7th Street bar strip, it's all Irish all the time, with a big wooden bar and tons of seating.

    Zaguán World Bakery and Café

2604 Oak Lawn Ave. Dallas, TX 75219-4020
    214-219-8393

http://www.zaguanbakery.com A zaguán is the mosaic-tiled entryway of Venezuelan homes, and this bakery and cafe is an entryway to some new tastes. Like traditional Venezuelan cachapas--a thick, sweet-corn crepe filled with shredded beef, Serrano ham or several other fillings, and arepas overflowing with melted Venezuelan cheese. You can make a meal out of cachapas and arepas alone, choosing from nearly a dozen fillings. The pretty, brightly colored cafe also offers a wide selection of Venezuelan and more continental pastries, Latin American sodas and fresh tropical fruit juice. More >>

    Zen Restaurant Bar Lounge

5064 Addison Circle Addison, TX 75001
    972-233-9362

http://www.fastonegraphics.com/zenaddison/zenac_index.html Opened in 2000, Zen Bar Addison Circle has become a popular hangout for folks who live in the many apartments nearby. (Zen has a golf cart for take-out deliveries to those who don't want to leave home to get dishes such as Jamaican jerk chicken and pineapple rice or chicken-lime tacos.) Inside, the vibe's appropriately Zen-like with candles and paper lanterns providing a warm, inviting glow in the dark, smoky dining and bar areas. Out back has an open-air patio for non-smokers. With plenty of HDTVs, expect large crowds on game nights. Evenings Thursday through Saturday, DJs liven up the dance floor. Zen encourages regulars to join its Facebook page to keep abreast of trivia nights, theme parties, pub crawls, drink specials and "resident appreciation parties." More >>

  • Zouk

    Zouk

703 McKinney Ave. Dallas, TX 75202
    214-754-8090

http://www.zoukdallas.com In the 1980's, the Starck Club was the beacon of Dallas nightlife. The collision of glamor, fashion, industrial design and the occasional celebrity appearance (Prince, Madonna, Grace Jones) drew thousands of fast-lane party goers every week. Now, after decades of sitting dormant, the space has received a facelift and has been reopened as Zouk. The two-tiered mega dance club hasn't ventured too far from its origins. Concrete pillars throughout the dance floor give the place a hard industrial feel, which is softened by sharp neon lights and plush furniture where VIPs can lounge and order bottle service. The club's most visually stunning display is a series of silver beaded strings that hang from the ceiling like dense, shiny spiderwebs, giving dancers on the floor below the feeling of being somewhere otherworldly. • Zubar

    Zubar

2012 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75206
    214-887-0071

http://www.thezubar.com With local art prominently displayed and edgy music seven days a week, you can almost forget you're in Dallas. On slow nights DJs spin music reggae, to drum n' bass, mash-ups and other hipster fare in the front room, leaving the back room relatively quiet for anyone wanting to relax on the massive L-shaped couch. For event nights, that back room isn't so peaceful, as the rear bar (with a futuristic red-lit bar top), DJ booth and, needless to say, dance floor are fully occupied. More >>
