Sisu Uptown Resort

Sisu Uptown Resort is one of the few Uptown aqua lounges that does not require a club membership. Open to the general public, Sisu's pool accommodates Dallasites looking to swim year round.

Lake House Bar & Grill

Located less than a mile away from White Rock Lake, just off of Northwest Highway, Lake House Bar & Grill is a far cry from an actual lake house, although it'll do just fine after a long day of work.

What looks like an actual treehouse, if it were first an old fraternity house, is a spanning two-story bar directly next to the heart of the University of North Texas campus, and caters mostly to students.

A handful of roof-mounted Smokeeters ensure this Egyptian-theme hookah lounge never gets too smoke-filled. A popular after-class hangout, Cairo is located on Campbell Road within walking distance of The University of Texas at Dallas (and a Fuzzy's Taco Shop). The place offers plenty of comfy seating, free Wi-Fi and various special concoctions to drink. Sheer brightly colored curtains cover the windows, and colorful murals depicting various Egyptian imagery cover every wall (mostly pharaohs, sphinxes and the like). For passing time while puffing, the place offers chess, checkers and other board games, a few flatscreen TVs and one large projection screen. Open daily from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. and located in a shopping plaza just two miles east of Central Expressway on Belt Line Road, Callisto is, according to one of its long-time bartenders, "equal parts dance club, neighborhood pub and sports bar -- depending on the time of day or event." In the afternoon and early evenings, the place attracts folks from the area with its happy hour specials. After 11 p.m. most nights, DJs spinning a mix of Top 40 hits, hip hop and dance tracks turn Callisto into a full-on dance club. The bar hosts pool, darts and poker tournaments, and in addition to nearly a dozen dartboards and plenty of pool tables, Callisto also has several foosball tables. Searching for a bar north of Addison won't yield too many results. But, should you find yourself near Preston and Frankfurt, Grover's has all the staples of the neighborhood bars to the south. The space is warm, with a stained concrete floor and an exposed red-brick wall. The stone bar sits high and looks up to several flat-screen televisions. The air in the adjacent music venue room lingers with the smell of the neighboring cigar shop's wares, and the stage overlooks plush red couches and cocktail tables where patrons lounge while cover bands perform. There's a large, inviting central bar with plenty of bar stools, as well as a few tables and chairs for more intimate conversations. The joint offers patrons pool, darts and shuffleboard, with leagues for all three -- and there's a trophy wall. Karaoke's on Friday, and live bands plug in on Saturday nights, filling the smoke-filled bar with classic rock and blues. The menu, featuring burgers, salads, sandwiches and appetizers, is popular with the regulars, and the menu isn't your typical drop-it-in-the-frier fare. Sports bars can be hit-or-miss, but chain sports bars inevitably seem to have a manufactured enthusiasm, as if they're all designed from a blueprint with blank areas that say "Install local sports team banner here." Of course, none of that matters after a few beers. And that's what sets Humperdink's apart--not only is it an all-purpose bar offering food, karaoke and big-screen televisions, but each location also boasts its own brewery, plus a small but well thought-out selection of other craft beers. In fact, the beer is good enough that you may want to get one of the 100-oz. "Beer Towers," a man-sized glass tube with a spigot at the bottom that requires a minimum of three people to order. More than just billiards, Rack Daddy's offers giant Jenga, lots of dartboards, a few video games and "legal gambling" known as "sweepstakes." While it's non-smoking inside, a spacious front-porch patio tends to fill up with smokers. One of its bars in the back even has "reserved" spots for equally long-time regulars. W.W. Fairfield's is sandwiched between Yum Yum Greek Restaurant and Pho Bac Vietnamese Restaurant in a Richardson strip shopping area, but the strip offers plenty of parking even on busy Friday and Saturday nights.
