    Coffee Co.

6038 La Vista Drive Dallas, TX 75206
214-887-8688 What Coffee Co. lacks in frappuccinos, fancy espresso machines, free Wi-Fi and cushy armchairs for hanging out, it makes up for with longevity -- they’ve been been roasting their own beans since 1971 -- and really great coffee, including an extra-potent “Motor Oil” variety that will surely get your motor revving. Early risers will have to look elsewhere for their fix, though: Coffee Co. doesn’t get brewing until 10 a.m. More >>

    Mudsmith Coffee

2114 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75206

Mudsmith Coffee, located on lower Greenville in the space squished between World Beer Co. and the Single Wide, is larger than nearly every independent coffee shop in town. Enormous vaulted ceilings shoot out from wood paneled walls, adorned with various stuffed animals. A massive bar, located in the center of the shop, boasts two La Marzocco espresso machines (one in mint green, the other sky blue), a selection of pastries, and beer and kombucha on tap. Mudsmith serves Fourbarrel Coffee, based out of San Francisco, and according to one of the shop's many Urban Outfitters-clad baristas, they also be serve wine (they have four bottles to choose from; two red and two white), sandwiches and kombucha mimosas. • Paciugo West Village

3699 Mckinney Ave Dallas, TX 75204-4550
214-599-9277 This is gelato, not ice cream; that means it’s made with milk instead of cream, which means that flavors aren’t dulled by a massive dose of milk fat, and served at a slightly warmer temperature, which means it’s ultra creamy. It also has 70 percent less fat than typical ice cream. Try up to three flavors in your cup or cone, from crowd pleasers like stracciatella (that’s a fancy way of saying chocolate chip), pistachio, and Mediterranean sea-salt caramel to more intriguing flavors like bubblegum, rose and beer sorbet. There’s also at least one soy-based flavor on offer every day, for you poor lactose-intolerant folk. More >>

6130 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75206-1967

While you never want to skimp where raw seafood is concerned, sometimes it’s nice to find a happy medium — a place where you won’t suffer the consequences of conveyor-belt sushi but won’t have to hand over the entire contents of your wallet to a celebrity chef, either. That nice middle ground is what makes Tampopo one of our favorite sushi haunts — that and the consistent quality of the food, the small, family atmosphere and the air of authenticity lent by the staff. Daily specials, combos and an outstanding sushi rice bowl make this old standby shine, as does the tempura. Middle ground, sure, but certainly not middling food. More >>
