Taking up most of the space in a small strip mall on Wycliff Avenue is the Brick & Joe's towering exterior, its large sign bathing the parking lot in a neon red glow. Although the LGBT-friendly bar relocated from Maple Avenue in 2009, the new building has seen no problem ushering in old regulars and new faces alike. A large bar serves as a centerpiece for a spacious dance floor, complete with two dancing poles and a gigantic disco ball. People of all types enjoy the club's loud and upbeat atmosphere, as male bartenders serve up drinks in nothing but tiny red boxer-briefs. Male dancers wear the same garb to dance on poles, and sometimes collect dollar bills in the process. Karaoke Tuesdays are a staple at The Brick & Joe's, although the extravagant drag shows are the real reason to get dolled up. Read more about this Dallas bar or club >>
Looking at the front of the shoddy building, it’s difficult to know what occupies the white building on Elm Street and Pearl. But at night, a short trip around the back of the building reveals two open doors, from which neon purple lights and pounding bass emanate. If you look out of place, the security guard working the door is quick to let you know that “it’s a gay bar.” Inside, the layout is just as campy as the exterior. A plywood staircase leads to a small balcony overlooking the bar. Read more about this Dallas bar or club >>
http://www.myspace.com/havanafresas Havana brings a touch of Miami's South Beach to Cedar Springs, serving up pumping dance beats inside a white stucco building lit with multicolored lights. The club is deceptively larger than it appears from the street, with a spacious dance floor separating the bar from a set of high-backed booths along the building's south wall. An elevated booth cloaked in dangling beads keeps the DJs perched just above the dance floor. Expect to see a well-dressed crowed dancing to Latin, hip-hop and Top 40. Parking is scarce on Cedar Springs, so either bring cash for a valet or prepare for a stroll. Read more about this Dallas bar or club >>
Like walking into an 80s night club, Randy's Cherries hasn't really changed in decades. Laser lights and fog machines still permeate the gay bar's large interior. Shiny surfaces, glossy concrete floors and pool tables attract patrons looking for a place to drink, dance and mingle. Located just on the edge of Uptown, the gay bar's drag shows on the weekends and karaoke throughout the workweek bring in gay couples and singles looking to socialize. Don't head to Cherries' if you want to be a wallflower. The back room of the club features something no other Dallas club has: a shower. Yes, you heard right, a shower in the middle of the room. Things tend to get kind of steamy at Randy's Cherries, so it makes sense to have one. Read more about this Dallas bar or club >>
http://www.roundupsaloon.com Notorious for being one of the most spacious gay bars in town, Round-Up Saloon has several rooms, multiple bars, and a two-story outdoor patio; although the bar's selling point is really its tremendous hardwood dance floor, in the middle of the main room. The bar is saturated with a western theme, and has several large, framed photos of male cowboys doing cowboy-type things. Along with karaoke, trivia and drag shows, the bar hosts two-stepping and western swing dance lessons every week. The friendly bar staff say that Round-Up is a place for gay, straight and transgendered people of every orientation. Even Lady Gaga made an appearance at Round-Up Saloon in 2011, after her "Born This Way" tour, as an act of support for the gay community. Read more about this Dallas bar or club >>
http://www.caven.com Sue Ellen’s has been a staple in Dallas’ gay and lesbian nightlife since 1989. In 2008, it relocated to Throckmorton Road, where it neighbors many of the city’s most popular gay and lesbian clubs. Advertised as a predominantly lesbian bar, the new two-story building hosts live bands throughout the week, karaoke on Mondays and a large disco ball suspending over the club’s spacious dance floor. Sundays are the bar’s mellowest night, when people gather to play skeeball, pool and darts, or hang out in the bar’s gated patio out front. Read more about this Dallas bar or club >>
