  • Aardvark

    Aardvark

2905 W. Berry St. Fort Worth, TX 76109
    817-926-7814

http://www.the-aardvark.com Located around the corner from Texas Christian University, it's no surprise this rock club has Greek appeal. But housed in the same historic strip that was home to The Hop and Rail, it books the best locals in the Golden Triangle, plus the occasional road show. More >>

  • The Abbey Underground

    The Abbey Underground

    100 W. Walnut St. Denton, TX 76201
    940-565-5478

The Denton square is full of spots tailored to meet the boozing needs of college kids at the nearby University of North Texas campus. The Abby Underground is no exception, but it does offer a different look and feel thanks to its – hence the name – underground location. There’s plenty of room to move around, and pool tables on which to pass the time if you’re not ordering shots at the wide wooden bar located in the adjacent room. The green paint on the walls serves a dual purpose, attracting students with the University’s colors and livening up this otherwise dark basement watering hole. More >>

  • Absinthe Lounge

    Absinthe Lounge

    1409 S. Lamar St. Dallas, TX 75215
    214-941-9338

http://www.absinthelounge.net Just south of downtown Dallas, Absinthe Lounge is one of several watering hole options. But there's something delightfully sinister about Absinthe. For one, the drink of the same name only recently became legal in the United States, and Absinthe Lounge takes great pride in the way it serves it. There's a whole ritual involved: the pour, melting the sugar, and adding the water from a specialized dispensary that looks, much like the rest of the bar, like it came from 19th century France. The lighting is low and smoky, which may or may not come from the cigars sold behind the bar. More >>

  • Across The Street Bar

    Across The Street Bar

5625 SMU Blvd. Dallas, TX 75206
    214-363-0660

http://www.acrossthestreetbar.com The Across the Street Bar was named for its location on SMU Boulevard on the other side of Central Expressway from Southern Methodist University, and the auto-garage-turned-bar-and-venue does see its fair share of college students. But it also draws folks from the surrounding area. This Upper Greenville no-frills bar, venue and billiards parlor is in a great location that's seen a recent facelift with several new lofts, restaurants and businesses moving into the area. And, like its sister bar, SMU Boulevard Ice House, Across the Street Bar is known for its cheap pitchers of draft beer. The bar regularly features local musicians and acts on its stage, and for more than 15 years the bar has hosted drum jams on Wednesday nights. More >>

  • Adair

    Adair's

2624 Commerce St. Dallas, TX 75226-1402
    214-939-9900

http://www.adairssaloon.com If you've never met a cowboy who could give you a pretty good lesson in punk-rock history, that problem can be quickly resolved at Adair's Saloon in Deep Ellum. The place combines country music with live bands almost every night of the week, with an aesthetic that goes back to Deep Ellum's punk era of the 1980s and 1990s. The venue's raw wooden walls are covered with stickers, and the floor is well-worn from late-night shuffles and line dances. And if you work up a hunger while you're there, no need to go anywhere else. Adair's has one of the best burgers in town. More >>

  • Al-Amir Restaurant

    Al-Amir Restaurant

3885 Belt line Road Addison, TX 75001
    972-488-2647

http://www.alamiraddison.com Sure, half-naked women might be rolling their stomachs nearby diners while they're trying to enjoy their Kibbe Makley, but that's all part of the experience at Al Amir. The Lebanese restaurant and club not only offers traditional dishes like sujouk (a spicy Lebanese sausage) and sharkat (Lebanese steak), but also nightly belly dancing and a hookah bar for patrons to enjoy. It also has a house DJ on hand to spin international dance music and a fully stocked bar to keep the spirits flowing throughout the night, or until 2 a.m. rolls around. If dance music isn't your scene, then stop by Al Amir during the day for the lunch buffet from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. every Monday through Friday. More >>

  • All Good Cafe

    All Good Cafe

2934 Main St. Dallas, TX 75226
    214-742-5362

http://www.allgoodcafe.com This is a little bit of Austin in Dallas. Rock posters, some of them autographed, share space with a gaggle of origami fauna left hanging from a 2009 wedding reception. On Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, popular and little-known musical acts jam out on the stage, packing the joint, and don't worry about paying cover at the door; you can make a "donation" to the band when they pass the kitty at intermission. Come early for brunch on Sunday. The line for a table at brunch moves slowly, especially if those already seated have ordered the hot-selling hot cakes. Whatever you order, though, odds are the ingredients have been sourced locally. More >>

  • Alligator Cafe

    Alligator Cafe

9540 Garland Road Dallas, TX 75218
    214-821-6900

http://www.eatgator.com A perennial winner of the Observer's "best Cajun" honor, Alligator Café is a counter-service take on South Louisiana cuisine. The restaurant"s a reliable source of boiled crawfish come mudbug season, and the popular pies tend to sell out before closing time, the East Dallas restaurant"s good cheer and boudin balls have won over eaters. The Cajun eatery also offers occasional live blues on the weekends from the likes of local luminaries like Hash Brown. More >>

  • Allure

    Allure

2224 Elm St. Dallas, TX 75201

The area in downtown Dallas west of Central Expressway — across the freeway from Deep Ellum — is a gray area between commerce and nightlife. While the two don’t exactly go together, the dance clubs and corporate highrises seem to coexist here. One good example is Allure, a two-story dance club built into a 100-year old building on Elm Street. From the outside, the building looks like a historical landmark, but on the inside it’s a sleek club with a big dance floor and neon laser lights. The big room upstairs, painted all white, is where ?uestlove from The Roots famously DJed a set for a packed house. More >>

  • American Airlines Center

    American Airlines Center

2500 Victory St. Dallas, TX 75219
    214-221-TEAM

http://www.americanairlinescenter.com Shiny and new, like a freshly minted gold coin; more luxurious than a pimp's RV; more HD sets than Mark Cuban's bathroom. Where all the top-o'-pops acts play, if that's what you call the Eagles and Dave Matthews Band; also, very sportsy. Still, it's a tad too big for the little people, who sit high enough to touch jetliners. More >>

  • Andy

    Andy's Basement Bar & Grill

    122 N. Locust St. Denton, TX 76201
    940-565-5400

http://www.andyslivemusic.com A longtime staple of the Denton bar scene and located on the downtown square, Andy's smokey interior is one of the best places to catch some of the many emerging bands in North Texas. Local acts regularly test new material on a small audience, and occasionally national acts pass through. Other than a stage and a bar, Andy's offers little else in the way of amenities. A few chairs and cocktail tables are scattered around toward the back, as well as a very ramshackle-looking balcony where the sound man mixes during the bands' sets. More >>

  • Arcade Bar

    Arcade Bar

1825 Abrams Parkway Dallas, TX 75214
    214-827-5253

http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=arcade bar&init=quick&tas=search_preload#!/pages/Dallas-TX/ARCADE-BAR/238937525174 Located next to the historic art deco Lakewood Theater and underneath the Balcony Club, this dive is popular among people in the Lakewood and Lake Highlands neighborhood. There's some café seating out front under the theater's marquee, but don't be disappointed -- there's no arcade inside. The long wooden bar runs the length of the establishment, and there's lots of seating available at the bar and at tables and chairs along the adjacent wall, which is decorated with old concert posters ranging from The Misfits to Jane's Addiction to Polvo. Arcade Bar offers weekly specials like Procession Mondays with $2 you-call-its all day, and karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursdays. More >>

  • Avanti Ristorante

    Avanti Ristorante

2720 McKinney Ave. Dallas, TX 75201
    214-871-4955

http://www.avantirestaurants.com Owner Jack Ekhtiar's small restaurant is a place where hip meets classic. Dark wood frames live jazz. Rustic Mediterranean fare, predominately Northern and Southern Italian, is presented elegantly. Among the examples are farfalle carbonara, a 6-ounce Brazilian lobster tail over spinach linguini alfredo and shrimp as well as carpaccio Avanti with white truffle oil. On weekends, revelers can enjoy the Moonlight Breakfast from midnight to 3 a.m. During that seating, guests can request the signature Avanti Omelet (Italian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and feta cheese) alongside escargot Chablisien, which is sautéed in garlic, vine-ripened tomatoes and mushrooms, then tossed with angel hair pasta, for the fancy-pants partier.
