http://www.thepalladiumballroom.com The Palladium manages to book an impressive variety of indie, metal, rap and folk. The sound can be spotty, the parking expensive, and the atmosphere can feel a bit too clean and corporate. But the past couple of years have brought in acts ranging from Wilco to Tom Waits to Modest Mouse to Motorhead. If you're an indie music fan, chances are you'll end up at The Palladium at some point-and if it's good enough for Erykah Badu's album release party, it's good enough for anyone. Word to the wise: Head just east on Lamar from the venue for a good chance at free or cheap metered parking. More >>
Beats, rhymes and life rule at what's becoming a Deep Ellum institution; you won't find a busier club on the weekends, with more people waiting to get in than some places get all week. If you want hip-hop and reggae - and you do, even if you don't think so - look no further. Also, check out talent showcase Sundays. More >>
http://www.pearlatcommerce.com Located downtown on the corner of Pearl and Commerce Streets, Pearl is housed in a two-story structure originally built in 1903. Since then, the building's housed several businesses like the Hall Remedy Co. and the Donovan Undertaking Co. (the last one, they say, "explains the ghosts"). Today, this bar and music venue that, according to its website, caters to a "diverse, mostly 30's and up crowd," hosts a wide variety of musical talent but specializes in primarily blues and jazz acts, with the occasional foray into zydeco, Latin and reggae. Inside there's plenty of seating with a good view of the stage. The bar has happy hour Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. when $3 wells and domestic longnecks are offered. More >>
For years, Pete's Piano Bar has had a monopoly on the Dallas-area piano-bar scene, which you had to go to Addison or Fort Worth to enjoy. Michael Montgomery, co-owner of The Penguin, which is part of a Missouri-based piano bar chain, saw the need in Uptown for piano entertainment. The space the bar occupies on Cedar Springs is cavernous and clean. A long mirror serves as a backdrop to the stage, which is wide enough for two baby grand pianos and a trap set. Audience members can watch themselves sing along from the tables in front of the stage, or build the courage to do so from the bar in the adjacent room. More >>
http://www.petesduelingpianobar.com The name pretty much says it all. If you're looking for a good-time, sing-along crowd, Pete's is the place. Especially if bawdy, off-color humor is your thing. And it should be. Open Wednesday through Saturday. More >>
http://www.poordavidspub.com Feel free to strike the "Poor- from this bar's title, as the Lamar location has finally overcome construction hurdles and stepped out as a respectable-looking joint. From a huge bar to a spacious sitting area and a damn-fine lineup of country, folk and acoustic acts, things are looking up at David's. More >>
http://www.pour-house.com Most pay-per-view events plus all NFL and NBA packages play on 41 plasmas and two big-screens in this huge sports bar. Boasting more than 100 bottled beers and 140 styles of liquor, The Pour House also hosts live bands Friday and Saturday and offers a mixed menu ranging from nachos to rib-eyes for lunch and dinner. Next door, The Garage at Pour House changes gears a bit with a dance lounge featuring LED lighting at the bar and in the VIP area. You could say it's the classier side of the joint, complete with bottle service, a dance space and DJ booth. More >>
