  • Barley House

    Barley House

5612 SMU Blvd. Dallas, TX 75206
    214-824-0306

http://www.barleyhouse.com It's no surprise that this Dallas institution is jam-packed with coeds after dark; it's a beer-pong bounce away from Southern Methodist University. However, the endless rotation of original and cover bands brings in live-show fans from across Dallas. While the kitchen does turn out food, mostly appetizers (e.g., "Totally Fried" Sampler: onion rings, stuffed red chiles, chicken strips, fried pickles and fries) and sandwiches (Barley House "Wing" Sandwich: spicy chicken breast with ranch dressing, carrots and celery), some entrées are available. The emphasis is on the musical acts and beer selection, which includes 17 drafts and more than 30 bottles. And for local historical kitsch: The Barley House is proud to advertise, "Laura Bush mentions the Barley House in her 2009 commencement speech at SMU." More >>

  • Beaumont Ranch

    10736 County Road 102 Grandview, TX 76050
    817-866-4000

http://www.beaumontranch.com/ The atmosphere at Beaumont Ranch is upscale, but very relaxed. The old Chisholm Trail ran through the middle of Beaumont Ranch. Even today real cowboys on horseback can be seen herding longhorn cattle outside the ranch’s 1880’s Western Town, Chisholm Fork. Located just 35 minutes from downtown Fort Worth and Dallas, the ranch is just close enough to the city to allow convenience and just far enough to place you where the West begins. More >>

  • Canary by Gorji

    Canary by Gorji

5100 Beltline Road Dallas, TX 75254
    972-503-7080

http://www.canarybygorji.com Over the years, chef-owner Mansour Gorji has transformed Canary Café to a little eclectic spot to a white tablecloth-though still casual-destination focusing on steak and Mediterranean specialties. Despite his Iranian background, he probably understands Texas steak better than anyone. Oh…it's also one of the few fancy places that would dare serve calf fries. A must visit. More >>

    City Tavern

1402 Main St. Dallas, TX 75201
    214-745-1402

http://www.citytaverndowntown.com This is an easy-going restaurant and bar that loves a good rock show. While the menu, beginning with lunch, doesn’t stray too far from the normal pub-grub choices (e.g., fish and chips, burgers, gigantic stuffed jalapeños), a po-boy and a pulled pork sandwich are also available. Customers can enjoy $3 drink specials or beer-and-a-shot pairings. Don’t be surprised if owner Josh Florence is the bartender serving it to you. Arriving before 10 p.m. is your best chance of snagging a table to take in the tunes from a long roster of bands on a Friday night. Thanks in part to the amiable staff, its well-worn wood decor and a kickin’ soundtrack, this joint oozes a neighborly vibe. More >>
