972-404-8501 The premier comedy club of the Dallas area, the Addison Improv brings in national comedians, local comics and comedy troupes alike. The dining room setup gives an intimate vibe to the place. During a show in 2009, comic Richard Lewis, claiming to have co-founded the comedy club chain, nearly wiggled loose one of the metal letters from the word "Improv" behind the stage while mocking how cheap he thought the club looked. Cheap or not, where else are you going to witness moments like that? More >>

    Allen Performing Arts Center

300 Rivercrest Blvd. Allen, TX 75002
469-319-6390 In 1995, the Allen Independent School District fine arts facilities at Allen High School with the Allen High School construction Master Plan. In 2008, a special community group, Project Kids, was asked to assess the need for fine arts facilities. After extensive research and broad community input, Project Kids recommended the creation of a quality, state of the art performance facility on the Allen High School campus to expand the educational and cultural benefits for each arts entity. In 2009 the citizens of Allen approved a bond package which authorized construction of the new facility. The Allen ISD Performing Arts Center was designed by the architectural firm of PBK, theatrical consults, Fisher Dachs, and acoustical consultants, BAI. It features a 1500 seat hall with state of the art lighting and sound capabilities. There are dressing rooms, a scene shop, a costume shop and a green room for performers within the site. In addition to the hall, there is also a spacious commons area that looks into the new Culinary Arts classroom and restaurant. The outside of the PAC has an attractive public plaza featuring outdoor seating for the Culinary Arts Department restaurant, Blu. Additional spaces include an additional Band rehearsal hall, renovations to other rehearsal spaces and a new Dance Dressing facility that will all be accessed from “back of house” to give more options for shows and events. The PAC hall is equipped with draping system used to brighten or dampen the sound inside as an event requires, a balcony with level 2 and level 3 entrances, and a wonderful art gallery space on the second floor overlooking the commons area and a balcony in front of facility. The upper and lower areas both offer handicapped seating access. The Performing Arts Center has hosted events with rave reviews including concerts, plays, dance productions as well as art shows in the fall of 2011. The Allen Performing Arts Center is excited to be the home of all Allen ISD performing and fine arts programs in the district, as well as the home of our own community orchestra, the Allen Philharmonic Symphony. • Allure

2224 Elm St. Dallas, TX 75201

The area in downtown Dallas west of Central Expressway — across the freeway from Deep Ellum — is a gray area between commerce and nightlife. While the two don’t exactly go together, the dance clubs and corporate highrises seem to coexist here. One good example is Allure, a two-story dance club built into a 100-year old building on Elm Street. From the outside, the building looks like a historical landmark, but on the inside it’s a sleek club with a big dance floor and neon laser lights. The big room upstairs, painted all white, is where ?uestlove from The Roots famously DJed a set for a packed house. More >>
