Don’t you just love it when a hometown kid who ventures off to the big city to seek fame and fortune goes back to the place that gave him or her a start? That’s what it will be like when comedian Bill Engvall performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. Engvall, a Galveston native, was working in Dallas as a club DJ when he decided to do a set at the club instead of spinning records. The set went so well that changed career paths and sought comedy full-time in Los Angeles. Later, he created a cultural catchphrase for labeling the blatantly stupid with his breakout, platinum-selling comedy album Here’s Your Sign and became one-fourth of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour team that led to top-selling comedy tours and the sketch comedy show Blue Collar TV on The WB and Comedy Central with Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy.
