A strong supporter of the arts, St. Andrew United Methodist Church is sponsoring world-renowned British vocal ensemble VOCES8 to be in residence at St. Andrew, November 3-6, to conduct education outreach on behalf of the church. The ensemble will hold music education workshops for choirs at area schools; perform at St. Andrew’s weekend worship services; and give a FREE PUBLIC CONCERT.
Formed in 2003 by former Westminster Abbey choristers, VOCES8 consists of eight singers, six men and two women. The group, which can be heard regularly on international television and radio, tours extensively throughout Europe, North America and Asia, performing a diverse repertoire ranging from early English and European Renaissance choral works to their own arrangements. Highlights of the group’s 2016-17 season include European performances at the Mito Festival Italy, Thüringer Bachwochen Germany, the Paris Philharmonie and Brussels Bozar. They will tour the USA twice, with concerts and residencies.
St. Andrew United Methodist Church, celebrating 30 years in 2016, is a vibrant, growing, intergenerational church. Begun in 1986, St. Andrew is located on a 21.214 acre campus at the corner of Plano Parkway and Mira Vista and includes a sanctuary, education, music and nursery wing, and columbarium. Nearly 2,000 come together every weekend through five different worship services: Saturday 5:30 p.m.-Traditional Service in Smith Worship Center; Sunday 9:30 and 10:50 a.m. – Traditional/Sanctuary and Contemporary/ Smith Worship Center. St. Andrew is an outward-focused church striving to lift the world around us toward God and provides a number of local and global mission opportunities including the Seven Loaves Community Center, which provides a myriad of services to qualifying residents of all Collin County zip codes directed at improving lives and breaking the poverty cycle. A number of caring ministries are in place to support members in all phases of life from support groups to career care in addition to ministries focused on each age group. Additional ministries include a strong music program with choirs, instrumental groups, as well as the Academy of Music, offering private lessons.
