The Hughes Family Tribute Center will present its second Dia de los Muertos Festival on Saturday, October 29 in Crown Hill Memorial Park. The cemetery, located in the Bachman Lake area, is traditionally visited by families on Dia de los Muertos. The Festival will build on this tradition by presenting a theatrical production, commissioned by the Hughes Family Tribute Center, by Teatro Flor Candela and a dance presentation by Grupo Pakal, specializing in Mayan dance presentations.
The Festival will also feature altar building and blessing; vendors of traditional Dia de los Muertos items such as marigolds, pastries, and sugar skulls; children’s activities, live music, and prize drawings. Area schools and churches are invited to participate in presentations of dance, theater, altar building, and speeches. The Festival will close with a showing of the animated film, The Book of Life. The Festival is free and open to the public.
