Fri., Oct. 7, Sat., Oct. 8, Sun., Oct. 9, Mon., Oct. 10, Tue., Oct. 11, Wed., Oct. 12 and Thu., Oct. 13 2016
From October 7, the América Cinemas partners with the Hola Mexico Film Festival in Los Angeles, the largest festival of Mexican cinema outside of Mexico, to present ten new Mexican films.   “Mexican cinema has been widely unrepresented in the U.S.,” comments Samuel Douek, festival director, who founded the festival in 2008 to give this national cinema a much-deserved higher profile.   The Hola Mexico Tour aims to introduce new audiences to the delights of Mexican cinema, as well as to bring fresh new films to Hispanic audiences around the nation.  Our selections include the Sundance hit MR. PIG, starring Danny Glover, and the romantic comedy ELVIRA, I WILL GIVE YOU MY LIFE BUT I’M USING IT, starring Cecilia Suárez.   The sexy televovela-based romp LAS APARICIO, features an all-star cast including Joaquin Cosio (QUANTUM OF SOLACE, THE LONE RANGER), and Ana de la Reguera (COWBOYS & ALIENS, COP OUT).  A varied menu of genres includes: the tongue-in-cheek sci fi THE SIMILARS, by rising star director Isaac Ezban; the tense thriller PARADISE LOST; poignant coming-of-age comedy/drama LEAF BLOWER; and affecting family drama PARALLEL ROADS.  A transgender woman achieves her true self in MADE IN BANGKOK, the only documentary in the series.
