Key for Kids Music Education Program
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - DALLAS, TX – September 26, 2017 – He’s toured Europe and won Grammys with Kirk Franklin and his own band, Snarky Puppy. Soon, Dallas jazz enthusiasts have the chance to see Oak Cliff native Shaun Martin less than two miles from his former stomping grounds at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m when Martin headlines a night of music with Dallas Jazz Piano Society at Sammons Center for the Arts. All ticket proceeds from the event benefit the music education program Keys4Kids.
Martin and Dallas Jazz Piano Society promise an evening of unexpected musical stylings and entertainment that will, through the evening’s charity partner, go on to inspire and develop new music talent in Dallas.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to feature a performer like Martin in our season this year, said Dan Hearle, Dallas Jazz Piano Society creative director. “From learning to play piano in Oak Cliff as a young boy and going on to collaborate with Chaka Khan, Kirk Franklin and Erykah Badu, he’s represented Dallas in the international jazz scene and will give an especially energetic performance to his home base and new fans with us at Sammons.”
While its concerts continue to pack Sammons, DJPS seeks to inspire more than concert attendees and musicians. Students with valid school IDs can attend all DJPS performances for free. Proceeds from the general admission fee for shows benefits Keys4Kids, an initiative started by DJPS to help deserving students in the Dallas area pay for piano lessons and instruments.
All regular season DJPS concerts are $20 for general admission and free for students with valid student IDs. Sammons Center for the Arts is located at 3630 Harry Hines Blvd. Dallas, Texas, 75219.
