Since 1983, John and Julie Broad have owned and operated the kind of place where everybody knows your name. That type of hospitality only makes the from-scratch, small-batch, freshly baked cookies even better, say the regulars -- some of whom have patronized JD's Chippery since the beginning. Always gooey and warm from continuous baking, chances are good the chocolate chip cookie in your hands came out of the oven only moments ago. The same goes for the peanut-butter chocolate chip and snickerdoodle, which are just the tip of the baked-goods iceberg. The Broads also make muffins like pineapple, ham and cheese and many with bran that are best washed down with fresh lemonade.
