Abuelo's has attempted to craft an upscale Mexico City menu--served in a faux courtyard with an ornate fountain, columns, tile and a squad of fake palm trees that some consider pretty, some consider over-the-top. Sometimes, the concept works beautifully: The cilantro lime soup was delicious, spiked with chicken and colorful tortilla strips, and Abuelo's dishes up some mean ceviche. The bacon-wrapped, mesquite-grilled beef tenderloins were OK, but we preferred the more identifiably Mexican dishes.
