Bob's Steak and Chop House

4300 Lemmon Ave.
(Lemmon and Wycliff)
Dallas, TX 75219
214-528-9446
Website
Since 1993, Bob Sambol's masculine meat locker has consistently landed at the top of most meat zealots' lists of favorite spots to gnaw in Dallas. Bob's is hedonistically assembled in that dark and clubby, brass and wood sort of way that seems to make steak digestion easier than in a bright cheery décor that might easily induce cholesterol-level anxiety or PETA panics. While most of the non-hoofed menu options Bob's offers are fair to middling, the steak is outlandishly delicious, which is no Bob bull.

Don't be confused about which Bob's to go to - it is Dallas. Yes there are other Bob's but the Dallas location is the best. I have been eating there for 9 years. You can't find a better KC Strip and Creamed Corn on the planet. I can't eat steak anywhere else.

This is my favorite restaurant in Dallas, recommended to me by my old friend (and local ABC film critic) Gary Cogill. It's classic steakhouse fare done perfectly - get the onion rings and shrimp three ways for the table, then have a salad (caesar or spinach with bacon) - and then move on to the best steak you have ever eaten. I kid you not, this Texas beef is so tender, you can cut it with a fork. Share some sides of creamed spinach, asparagus with garlic and potatoes however you want them. If you can jam in any more food after finishing all that and some great red wine, get the brownie sundae for your party to share. A classy spot for a date or dinner with friends or colleagues. If you're in town alone, still go and eat at the bar - you'll be sure to make friends.
