Campisi's

Darkness and red Naugahyde set the retro mood in Dallas' legendary Campisi's, home of the city's finest thin-crust pizza. The secret, in our humble opinion? Deninitely not the toppings, which are diced so finely in some instances that the flavors simply register as salt. And not the crust--which, while very good, is equaled elsewhere in town. Nope, it's the sauce: slow-simmered, richly concentrated, slightly sweet and slightly bitter, with a perfect nip of spice. What's an Italian restaurant without a decent tomato sauce, anyway? You'll also find good old-fashioned pasta dishes--nothing fancy, just the kind of stuff that reminds us of Friday-night spaghetti-and-fish dinners in the Rust Belt ethnic neighborhood where we spent our earliest year.
